An Overview
In 1992, the Duquesne University School of Education chartered a Leadership Institute. Similar to the now internationally recognized Interdisciplinary Doctoral Program for Educational Leaders (IDPEL) which was created out of the same innovative vision, it has as its overall goal the promotion of new interdisciplinary paradigms of leadership and leadership development that will facilitate the preparation and renewal of professionals capable of meeting the challenge of providing effective leadership for education, government, business, and other public and private enterprises in the 21st Century.
The Institute, which has already established
successful partnerships locally and abroad (e.g. Oxford University
in England), engages in consultation, teaching, and partnerships
in order to enhance our knowledge and practice of authentic
leadership. Specifically, the Institute may engage in the following
activities, and others as mutually agreed upon with colleagues
(individuals or organizations) who have an interest in leadership
and education: Provide professional renewal programs and opportunities
for
interdisciplinary
networking, including
individual
opportunities
to become Institute "Fellows."
Develop consultant
relationships
with clients
in areas of
specialization,
including the
opportunity
to establish
organizational "Affiliates."
Promote
technologically
supported networking
and mentoring opportunities.
Conduct training programs for
domestic and international audiences on topics related to
leadership.
Sponsor seminars, symposiums and conferences for
clients, fellows and affiliates, including those tailored
to collegial request, such as strategic planning and thinking,
school culture
assessment, team building, electronic professional portfolio
development, program evaluation, leadership/followership.
Implement action research projects in areas of mutual interest
to the Institute and its clients. Develop, publish and disseminate
results of research and training activities. |
